When temperatures approach ten degrees Celsius, when the leaves change color, and when the migratory birds head south— then autumn is here! Yes, the third season has arrived.
For meteorologists, autumn begins on September 1st. Astronomically, however, the autumnal equinox is considered the beginning of the autumn season. The equinox can also be called the equinox, which makes the term easier to understand: This situation occurs twice a year, once at the beginning of spring and again at the beginning of autumn.
On this day, day and night are approximately equal in length all over the world. At the equinox, the sun crosses the celestial equator and is briefly perpendicular to the Earth's equator. In 2014, autumn began on September 23rd, but in other years it may also begin on September 22nd.
