Wedding gifts

There comes a day when you get a call from your best friend telling you they're getting married. In that moment, your heart seems to overflow, and one thing is certain: A big celebration is coming up, and you definitely won't want to miss it. But there's something else that immediately springs to mind when you receive the invitation: What should you give them as a gift?

And the faster the date approaches, the fewer ideas you have for what to give. It's not as if you gave a stunning set of dishes last time, and you don't want to fall short of that gift this time. But you could also make choosing a special gift your own brand, focusing on your own creativity and creating a personal gift with meaning, rather than just looking for a special gift.

It's a bit like when a friend gives you a stunning tea set, and everyone waits to see what the next gift will be. However, if that's not the right way for you to choose a gift, perhaps the list below can help. I've compiled some ideas for you that I found while browsing the internet and that others have shared with me.

An album: ...but not a normal, empty one. Instead, an album full of memories and stories about you, your friends, and your family. These memories will surely be remembered, and at the same time, it's a starting point for a new chapter in your life. You can leave half of the album blank for the recipient to fill in the years to come.

An adrenaline rush: Parachuting from high altitudes, taking a scuba diving course—all of these are experiences you'll never forget. The ultimate gift!

A work of art: It's always a good idea to give something that will stand the test of time. You just need to know the bride and groom's taste, or you can opt for something neutral, or something that blends in well with the surroundings and is easy to transport. Pictures or small, lightweight statues are particularly suitable for this. Your gift should also reflect something of your personality, so it's not just a gift, but a lasting memory.

A Polaroid camera: ...and preferably fully charged. This way, guests can take spontaneous and fun snapshots of the party, and the photos will serve as a lovely memento of the day.

Accessories for the day: This gift should be given well in advance. If you're very close to the bride and groom, you can give them the rings, the flower arrangement, the cake, or the cocktail reception.

A day at the spa: Before or after, whatever the recipient prefers. A day at the spa provides relaxation and helps you unwind physically and mentally before the celebration. It's a great way to unwind and escape the stress of preparation!

Custom-made shoes: This idea seems very creative to me because it's both durable and practical. Imagine spending your wedding reception in super comfortable shoes that were made exactly to your needs and fit your feet like a second skin. Perhaps you could add a second pair of flats for the bride.

Pre-honeymoon: Treating the newlyweds to a last-minute getaway is a bad idea. A few days on a paradisiacal beach that also conjures up the perfect bronzed skin.

Traditional: Dishes, cutlery, household appliances, etc. are always needed. But it's better to discreetly ask what's really needed. Who wants five toasters...

Dom Pérignon: An expensive champagne to be opened on your first wedding anniversary or any other post-wedding occasion. This is luxury!

Wedding registry: Wedding registry templates are a simple way to find out what the bride and groom need or want. They're not about the unusual, but rather the practical. And they're always the best option if the bride and groom aren't part of your inner circle of friends.

Collectibles: If she collects dolls and he collects antique figurines, this is a great opportunity to give a truly special gift. You can also attach a card to the collectible (without damaging it, of course).

A photo session: This could be something called "trash the dress," for example, which is the complete opposite of the usual wedding photos. The photo session promises to be super fun. However, the bride and groom should be aware that the dress and wedding suit usually don't survive the photo session.

Always remember: Whenever you have the opportunity to give a gift, always give with all your heart. Enjoy it! Feel it! That's the best motivation,

You should only give money as a gift if the bride and groom have expressly requested it. However, money is always very impersonal. If you want to support the future couple financially, consider financing a special moment for them, such as part of their honeymoon trip or a dinner during the honeymoon.
