Our pets as buttons

Unsere Heimtiere als Buttons - mia mai

Tastes differ – this is especially evident when choosing a pet. One factor, of course, is the amount of space available in the home and the budget. But that's not all – cat lovers and dog lovers are also often assumed to have certain characteristics. Is there any truth to this? In any case, our designer has taken the trouble to create a few examples in button form – for all pet owners and those who would like to become one. Enjoy!

Cat button

Cat Button In Germany alone, it is estimated that more than eight million domestic cats are kept. A considerable number, and significantly more than the number of dogs, which together total 5.4 million. More than one in three pets kept in Germany is a cat. There are numerous breeds of domestic cats, ranging in weight from 2.5 to 8 kilograms.

Dog button

Dog Button After cats, dogs make up the largest pet population in our latitudes. Some researchers assume that dogs were domesticated around 10,000 years ago and have been kept as pets by humans ever since. Others estimate that this happened much earlier. Dogs were primarily kept as working animals and served as guard dogs, herding dogs, and also as draft animals. Breeds were bred according to their intended purpose. Today, the majority of dogs are used only as "man's best friend." Many smaller breeds, such as the pug, would no longer be suitable as working animals. The Doberman pinscher depicted in this button was bred in the 19th century as a guard and protection dog and is still often used as a police dog today.

Parrot button

Parrot Button An estimated 3.5 million birds are kept as pets in Germany. Unfortunately, we were unable to determine how many of these are parrots. It is likely only a small proportion, as parrots are more expensive not only to purchase but also to care for than smaller birds such as canaries or budgies. Parrots have been kept as pets since the Middle Ages, initially primarily at royal courts as a symbol of luxury, but later also by wealthy households. Pirates were even said to enjoy keeping parrots.
